FrSky Apus MQ60 V2 – what’s new? http://www.dzskam.com/news/frsky-apus-mq60-v2-whats-new/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/frsky-apus-mq60-v2-whats-new/#comments Fri, 29 Jun 2018 10:34:29 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=3580 Frsky has released second version of their tiny whoop – Apus MQ60 V2. What has been changed? This is going to be the most booring news post – FrSky hasn’t upgraded a thing on this new Apus MQ60 V2! Look at the specifications – they are exactly the same as for  APUS MQ60 V1 . Well, actually, they do have changed something – changed the 4-bladed props to 3-bladed and updated the VTX firmware to disabled some of the frequencies to comply the FCC regulations. Last year the FCC has imposed a $180,000 civil penalty on GetFTP (Lumenier Holdco LLC) for selling the non complient video transmitting devices. Some of them were transmitting on the frequencies that fell outside the permissible amateur bands. Most probably FrSky has discontinued the V1 and made a new V2 version just to comply theese regulations.

Also motors were changed to 19000KV ones. FrSky has changed the motor supplier  (Thanks Joe, for the reminder).

Here is the VTX frequencies list for APUS MQ60 V1:

And this is the updated VTX frequencies list for APUS MQ60 V2:

KingKong Tiny 6X whoop – build it yourself (in progress) http://www.dzskam.com/uncategorized/kingkong-tiny-6x-whoop-build-it-yourself-in-progress/ http://www.dzskam.com/uncategorized/kingkong-tiny-6x-whoop-build-it-yourself-in-progress/#respond Wed, 18 Apr 2018 18:50:11 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=2910 LDARC (ex. Kingkong) has released Tiny 6X  as an updated version of the Tiny 6. The main difference was switching to more powerful 7×16mm motors. After making of the custom Tiny 6,  I’m excited to try to make my own custom Tiny 6X! Of course you can buy a pre-build bind and fly version of the Tiny 6X, but I want a whoop with an OSD and pre-build version doesn’t have it. Besides you will be missing the joy of doing it by yourself.

Parts list

Also we will need:

Frame kit

Frame kit comes in in carton box. If your box was abused during the shippment and your frame was defomed you can easily reshape it by submersing it into hot water.

Frame kit contents: The frame itself.

4 pcs various colors canopy

A tiny led PCB

That goes into slot on the back of the frame.

4 sets of various color propellers (total 16pcs)

Rubber rings, grommets and screws. This is very handy as flight controllers comes without any mounting accessories.

Flight controller

Flight controller was selected a cheap F3 Whoop Pro board. It comes with 2.0mm JST pigtail (aka Power whoop plug) for connecting battery and 1.25mm pitch sockets to solder onto PCB for motor connection.

Socket orientation for soldering should be this way:

Motors

Original motors for KingKong/LDARC 7x are 7x16mm sized 17600KV ones:

You should buy two sets (2 CW and 2 CCW rotation).

Camera

We need a micro AIO camera with OSD support – camera should have Video Out and Video In wires. AKK BS2-OSD camera has the right pinout so it will fit perfectly.

Kingkong/LDARC Tiny 6X – something in between Tiny6 and 7 http://www.dzskam.com/news/kingkong-ldarc-tiny-6x-tinywhoop/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/kingkong-ldarc-tiny-6x-tinywhoop/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2018 15:14:55 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=2776 LDARC (former KingKong) announced an upgraded KingKong Tiny 6 model called Tiny 6X. So what is different from the earlier Tiny? Compared to its predecessor, LDARC Tiny 6X comes with more powerful 7x16mm 17600KV brushed motors and high voltage LiPo battery (LiPo HV).  The weight of the Tiny 6X is 25 g (Tiny6 weight is 19.2 g and Tiny7 weight is 32.5 g). The size is the same as Tiny665mm between motor axis. I would call this model Tiny 7X as Tiny 7 was using the same 7mm diameter motors. In fact this is something in between the Tiny6 and Tiny7. It looks like this tiny whoop has got the good features from the both of his predecessors – the lower weight and size from the Tiny6 also the more powerfull motors from the Tiny7.

Tiny 6X comes in variuos configurations: Standart (0ne battery and simple charger), Advanced (3 batteries, spare props, spare canopies and battery checker), DSM2, Futaba FASST, Flysky, Frsky Compatible Receiver or Without Receiver.

Ryze Tello quadcopter (powered by DJI) http://www.dzskam.com/news/dji-tello-quadcopter/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/dji-tello-quadcopter/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2018 11:23:43 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=2756 Chineese startup company called RYZE Tech released new drone – Tello. The Tello has been developed with the use of technology from DJI and also from another well known company, Intel. The usage of technologies from these two comapnies enables us to expect for an interesting and at least decently working product. Despite the fact that DJI is not manufacturing this drone by itself (the manufacturing process is made by RYZE Tech), this Tello drone is sold on DJI Store.  This is the half of the success already.

Tello uses an Intel Movidius Myriad 2 VPU, which handles visual object recognition in other DJI drones, letting them do things like respond to hand gestures. In the Tello, it’s supposed to help the drone hover in one place more consistently, or land in an outstretched palm. This Intel technology will help novice users to easily control an learn to operate the Tello quadcopter.

Tello weights 80 grams, flight times expected up to 13 mins with 1100mAh 1S battery. The quadcpter will have 5 megapixel camera that transmitts 720p video stream signal with up to 100m of distance. Camera even has electronic image stabilisation (EIS) that will help to make more steady pictures and video. Another advanced sensors are infrared range finder, barometer, vision positioning

Remember the Kudrone Drone? Will this drone be a success or a failure? Well at least the DJI-Ryze Tello is having the more realistic specifications and a background of the working and proven technologies of the DJI and Intel companies.

Tello can be purchased:

Fat Shark 101 Quadcopter Starter Kit http://www.dzskam.com/news/fat-shark-101-quadcopter-starter-kit/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/fat-shark-101-quadcopter-starter-kit/#respond Fri, 22 Dec 2017 10:32:38 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=2645 FatShark has released FPV quadcopter kit – Fatshark 101. This kit is targeted for beginners to jump start into FPV racing world. Kit includes Brushed Quadcopter, Transmitter and Fatshark Recon Goggles. Kit also includes 2 gates for setting up a simple race track. Spare propellers, spare motors and 2 batteries are also included. Batteries are charged via simple USB charger. Transmitter has nice full-sized gimbals, two 3-position switches. One 3-position switch on the transmitter is for selecting the flight mode that determines the flight behavior of the quad. The 3 flight modes are: beginner, intermediate, and pro. Beginner mode is self levelled horizon mode. Intermediate mode disables self levelling and leave only angle mode (also known as Acro). Pro mode increases rates for more advanced pilots. Quadcopter has an USB socket built in that allows you to connect to your computer and change the further parameters (like PID’s, rates, etc) using Betaflight Configurator.

With registration, each kit comes with free access to the Drone Racing League simulator (a $20 value) and three months of free Academy of Model Aeronautics membership + insurance. The radio plugs directly into a computer for direct integration with the DRL simulator and can also be used to pilot the quad in stabilized or advanced mode.

It is sold preassembled, all you need to do is plug the battery, bind and you can fly. But where is the fun of building something unique? Lets make our own version of Tiny6!

All the necessary parts.

Shopping list:

Tiny6 frame @ Gearbest: KingKong Tiny 6 65mm Micro Plastic Frame Kit – $6.99

Tiny6 frame @ Banggood:  65mm Frame Kit Sets For KINGKONG/LDARC Tiny6 Inductrix Tiny Whoop Racing Quadcopter -$7.99

Motors

Racerstar Black edition 4X Racerstar 615 6x15mm 59000RPM Coreless Motor with (1.25mm plugs)  – $9.99

Racerstar Red edition 4X Racerstar 615 6x15mm 59000RPM Coreless Motor (with 1.25mm) – $11.99

Racerstar Purple edition  4X Racerstar 615 6x15mm 67000RPM Coreless Motor (with 1.25mm) – $16.99

Kados Insane edition 6MM CHAOLI (KADOS INSANE) 65000RPM 6X15MM – $9.99

Flight controller

@ Gearbest: FuriBee F3 32-bit Brushed Flight Controller – $17.99

@ Banggood: Eachine Beecore F3_EVO_Brushed ACRO Flight Control Board For Inductrix Tiny Whoop – $23.99

Upgraded Beecore with OSD:  Eachine Beecore Upgraded V2.0 Brushed F3+OSD Flight Control Board For Tiny Whoop – $26.99

Total cost:  from $34.97

First of all we will use original Tiny6 frame. It comes with white flexible frame base, canopy, damping rubber pads, screws, rubber bands and 4 pcs of 3 blade props.

Put the BeeCore F3 flight controller on the foam pads.

FC orientation: Battery connector and micro USB port should be located on the back side of the quad.

Fixate the flight controller with two screws – one on the from and one on the back. Left and right screws will be used to hold the canopy.

We have two options for FC mounting. One is use dampening foam pads that come with flight controller:

Another option is to use rubber dampers that cam with the Tiny6 frame kit. It’s a matter of the preference – foam dampeners make more softer fication and ruber dampeners are more stiff, but I went for rubber ones.

Rubber bands are for used to hold the motor wires close to the frame.

Thats how motors connected and wires fixed with rubberbands look like.

We have already made a flyable Tiny6. We can plug the battery, bind the transmitter and check how this little whoop flies. If it flys ok LOS (line of sight), we can now convert it to the FPV whoop. For this we need to add camera and VTX combo.

Camera and video transmitter shopping list:

From Gearbest

Camera: Turbowing TWC25 Micro 700TVL NTSC FPV Camera  – $8.94

VTX: Turbowing 5.8G 48CH 25mW NTSC FPV Transmitter – $8.94

Or combo camera + VTX: Turbowing TX25 Split Micro 700TVL FPV Camera – $17.06

From Banggood:

Camera: 600TVL 1/4 1.8mm CMOS FPV 170 Degree Wide Angle Lens Camera PAL/NTSC 3.7-5V – $6.99

VTX: Eachine VTX01 Super Mini 5.8G 40CH 25mW FPV Transmitter – $9.99

Combo camera: Eachine TX01S NTSC 40CH 25MW VTX 600TVL Cmos FPV Camera for Tiny Whoop – $18.99

Total for camera & VTX:  from $17.06

I have chosen the Eachine TX01S camera and VTX combo.

The Eachine TX01S camera fits the canopy nicely.

The only soldering you will need to do in this build is solder the VTX power lines.  For this you trim the power leads and solder them to the marked pads.

I have attached the camera to the canopy with a help of double sided adhesive tape.

You see  the all the FC status and the VTX channel and band LEDs through the holes in the canopy. Unfotunately you cannot change them withou removing the canopy.

Thats it, we have completed the Do-It-Yourself Tiny6 brushed tiny whoop. This was the easiest quad buid I’ve made so far. Almost no soldering required. You can complete this build easy and quickly.

Some photos of the completed Tiny6 whoop.
