1 Happymodel and BetaFPV ELRS receivers with TCXO

http://www.dzskam.com/news/happymodel-and-betafpv-elrs-receivers-with-tcxo/#respondWed, 23 Nov 2022 19:41:28 +0000http://www.dzskam.com/?p=11770All ExpressLRS transmitters and receivers work on the certain frequency. Both devices must operate on the exact frequency in order to be able to talk to each other. The precision of the frequency is mostly dependable on the crystal oscillator (XO). This makes crystal oscillator the very important part in the ELRS hardware.
One of the most notorious problems with ExpressLRS hardware is that some manufacturers hardware have unacceptable high frequency error. And in the high or low temperatures it gets even worse. There is certain threshold of the frequency error for the link to work. Up to 40 ppm error (=~100 kHz) frequency difference is considered still acceptable.
BetaFPV SuperD receiver is the first ExpressLRS receiver with full dual diversity and temperature compensated crystal. Receiver has two SX1280 LoRa RF ICs, two PA/LNA amplifiers and two antenna connectors. Power amplifier provides 100mW for telemetry link.
Both manufacturers dual diversity receivers have multicolored LED for status indication. SuperD and EP1 Dual receiver RGB status indication is shown below.

http://www.dzskam.com/news/happymodel-pancake-fc-vtx-rx/
http://www.dzskam.com/news/happymodel-pancake-fc-vtx-rx/#respondMon, 20 Jun 2022 12:30:00 +0000http://www.dzskam.com/?p=11375Happymodel has added another flight controller in their portfolio – Happymodel Pancake FC with integrated OpenSource VTX and ExpressLRS RX. It is rare to see video transmitter and radio receiver integrated on the single FC board, except highly integrated whoop/toothpick AIO boards. Happymodel Pancake is an interesting exception.
Happymodel Pancake is powered by STM32F411 MCU and has old trusty MPU6000 gyro. Flight controller can be powered from 2-6S battery directly and has only one 5V power out regulator on board.
The board has multiple (20x20mm and 30.5×30.5mm) mounting options. The FC itself is 20x20mm mount size with breakable tabs for mounting on the bigger 30.5×30.5mm stack.
Onboard video transmitter is based on the open source project Open VTX (https://github.com/OpenVTx/OpenVTx). It can output 0, 25, 100 and 400mW output power. OpenVTX firmware also has so called RCE (Race) mode. It will force pitmode on boot and only use 25mW.
Onboard ExpressLRS receiver is connected directly to the MCU via SPI interface. This means the ExpressLRS receiver firmware is embedded into the Betaflight source code. You cannot update the ExpressLRS firmware separately from the Betaflight firmware. New ExpressLRS firmware versions must be updated in the Betaflight code and we all know how rarely the new Betaflight versions are released (approximately once in a year). This is the biggest problem with integrated SPI RX. ExpressLRS receiver has ceramic antenna on the board, so you don’t need to worry where to place the receiver antenna. The range is somehow limited in comparison to the regular antenna, so this board is definitely not for the long range.

Happymodel X12?5-in-1 AIO flight controller has on board Express LRS 2.4GHz receiver, connected via SPI bus. This means that ExpressLRS firmware updates are possible only by updating the Betaflight firmware as ExpressLRS receiver code is included inside the Betaflight.?Happymodel X12 AIO also has on board VTX with OpenVTX firmware. This means the VTX supports SmartAudio and IRC Tramp control protocols. VTX is capable of outputting up to 400mW of RF power.
Also the Mobula 7 will have the new?third-generation RS0802 motors with a unibell design. Happymodel RS0802 motors have 1.5mm shaft and include PCB bottom plate for soldering the motor wires.

This time it is DiamondF4– the lightest F4 AIO flight controller with integrated Frsky or Flysky receiver and integrated VTX. Integrated VTX can be switched from 25mw to 200mw of power output. Other features are pretty standard – F411 MCU, MPU-6000 SPI gyro, 5A (6A burst) 4in1 ESC, OSD and Current sensor, but the total weight of the 5in1 AIO FC is only 3.42 grams!
The weight is only 3.42 grams. This is the lightest whoop/toothpick FC with integrated VTX! The closest alternative is the BetaFPV 1S VTX FC with the weight of 3.92g.
In the package you will get the FC, PH2.0 battery pigtail, FPV camera connector pigtail and the full size RX antenna.

http://www.dzskam.com/news/happymodel-moblite6-and-moblite7-mobulite-tiny-whoop/#commentsFri, 04 Dec 2020 16:31:33 +0000http://www.dzskam.com/?p=9466Happymodel is going to release new lighter versions of their popular Mobula series – Moblite6 and Moblite7. They are 65mm and 75mm brushless whoops accordingly. They have the same frames as in previous versions, but all the other components are totally new. New Happymodel EX0802 unibell design brushless motors, new DiamondF4 AIO flight controller, newest RunCam Nano4 Lite camera. Moblite whoops have so called “low rider” camera placement between the two front ducts with a special low profile camera holder. This allows to reduce the weight and improve the flight characteristics. RunCam Nano4 Lite is totally new camera with the lightweight lens from the RunCam Nano3 and thus total weight of the camera is only 1.0g!
Moblite6 weights only 18.6g and Moblite7 weights only 19.5g.
The overall stripped off design of the whoop reminds… the skeleton, but the total flight time is greatly improved.
Fun fact – the 2 bladed propellers in the photo of the Moblite7 are made from the 4 bladed HQProp propellers by cutting off the two blades… I wonder what propellers will the production Moblite7 is going to have.
Moblite6 and Moblite7 will be using the new Happymodel DiamondF4 flight controller with built in SPI Frsky receiver and built in 25-200mW VTX. The Frsky receiver has IPEX antenna connector and comes with a normal dipole antenna.
The total weight of the DiamondF4 flight controller is only 3.42g (antennas excluded).
Original idea of this whoop belongs to the Mr. ShutterBug (Nate Payne):

It is the first 5in1 AIO flight controller which could handle 2S. This flight controller is upgraded CrazybeeF4 Lite, includes the F4 MCU, OSD, 4in1ESC, RX and VTX on one board and is capable of 1-2S battery input.
The weight of the CrazybeeX 5in1 AIO flight controller is about 4.5 grams.
You only need to add the camera (such as RunCam Nano 3) and plug in the motors to make the complete build.
Happymodel CrazybeeX V1.0 connection pinout:
Noticed: RX1 can be used for IBUS/DSM2/DSMX signal imput from the external receiver. IR1 is the inverted signal of RX1 , used for SBUS input from external receiver. RX1 and IR1 couldn’t be used at the same time.
Bind procedure:
Make the on board receiver get into bind mode: For 3.5.7 version firmware Plug USB and then press the bind button for 1 second , the Red LED on the top of the flight controller will getting to be solid , this indicate the receiver is in bind mode; For 4.0.x version firmware Plug USB and then connect betaflight configurator and then move to CLI tab , type “bind_rx_spi” ,the Red LED on the top of the flight controller will getting to be solid , the onboard receiver is in bind mode; For 4.1.x or 4.2.x the bind code is “bind_rx”
Make your transmitter get into bind mode . If bind is successful the red led will starting to blink. The red LED wouldn’t blinking when binding with some new ACCESS firmware frsky radio, but the bind is actual successful , need to go to CLI command and type “save” to finish the binding .
