SerialShot – new protocol for ESC http://www.dzskam.com/news/serialshot-new-protocol-for-esc/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/serialshot-new-protocol-for-esc/#comments Mon, 30 Dec 2019 15:04:10 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=5444 Matek has developed new ESC protocol – SerialShot. The idea is to use bidirectional UART to communicate with the microcontroller on the ESC. This enables to communicate with the ESC and have a telemetry readouts by using only two wires (RX, TX) for all the 4 ESC’s. This should simplify the wiring of the 4in1 ESC to Flight Controller. Another advantage of the SerialShot is that it enables to use only one MCU for driving all 4 ESCs while usually every motor ESC has separate MCU and separate signal wire.

SerialShot will simplify the 4in1 ESC design and probably make them cheaper to manufacture. It is not known if this protocol can be used for the separate ESC’s or if it can only be used for 4in1 ESC.

Matek has also posted a teaser photo of their first 4in1 ESC with only one F4 MCU that drives all 4 motors by using SerialShot.

Here is the demonstration of the new Matek 4in1 ESC working on SerialShot.

Update 2019-12-30: Matek has not abandoned this project, but in fact there is major progress in it – Serial Shot 4in1 ESC main MCU has been upgraded to the F7 (F722) and some prototypes have been manufactured. See the latest photo.

Matek FC F411-ONE with FrSky receiver http://www.dzskam.com/news/rumors-matek-aio-fc-with-receiver/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/rumors-matek-aio-fc-with-receiver/#respond Thu, 04 Jan 2018 00:55:11 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=2708 A photo was leaked on something new that Matek is working now. Details unknown, but it looks like AIO FC with receiver on board. It has two push buttons – one for bootloader, and another probably for RX binding. Two antennas are seen on the bottom of the board with IPEX connectors. This has to be FrSky RX with diversity antennas on board!

The most important point this is the first FC that works with RX via fast SPI protocol! No PPM, no SBUS, not even FPort, just plain RX control directly from MCU.

This is how full Matek stack looks like: AIO FC, OSD, FrSky RX, PDB, VTX:

Update 2018-10-02: Seems there are issues and problems with this FC and D16 receiver mode. Users get some failsafes and twithches in the flight. So far it is recommended to use D8 receiver mode.  Read more about it here: http://www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=f411-one#tab-id-5 and here: https://github.com/betaflight/betaflight/issues/5576.

Created: 2018-05-02
Updated 2018-10-02: Warning about the issues on D16 mode.

Matek FCHUB-W – PDB for fixed wing http://www.dzskam.com/news/matek-fchub-w-pdb-for-fixed-wing/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/matek-fchub-w-pdb-for-fixed-wing/#respond Thu, 28 Dec 2017 08:30:38 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=2671 Matek announced the newest product of their PDB line – FCHUB-W. This PDB is designed for fixed wings (hence the letter “W” in the naming of the PDB). It is connected to the Matek Flight Controller by means of the flat ribbon cable that transfers all the needed signals to the PDB. There are 4 servo powered outputs that can be broken into servo headers. This simplyfies the wiring greatly. PDB also has current sensor, 5V, 10V and even 3.3V BEC’s, RX and TX connections (UART5) for GPS or other peripherals.

Well, it is not exactly multirotor stuff, but still interesting product. The first PDB for planes ever. As long as I know.

This is only an announcement of the upcomming product. More info will be available later.

Update 2018-02-08: More specifications and photos are available.

This time it is F405-CTR – a remake of the the first Matek AIO flight controller F405-AIO. The main MCU is the same, STM32F405, it also has OSD, current sensor, microSd card slot, 5V BEC, but a lot of things was changed. New F405-CTR now has MPU6000 (working in SPI mode, 8Khz loop time) instead of the IMU20602, that was extremely sensitive and causing problems in some setups. BMP280 barometer was added. 6 PWM/DShot outputs, VCP and 5 UARTS are available on this board. There are  I2C pads for external sensors and DAC pad for FPV camera settings control. Every ESC has its own + and – pads on the each corner as well as signal and RX5 pads for ESC telemetry.

The Matek F405-CTR comes with integrated silicone grommets for dampening like in the all of the latest Matek boards.

Matek FCHUB-VTX – PDB and VTX in one http://www.dzskam.com/news/matek-fchub-vtx-pdb-and-vtx-in-one/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/matek-fchub-vtx-pdb-and-vtx-in-one/#respond Mon, 18 Sep 2017 08:47:53 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=1874 Matek has released their most advanced and most anticipated PDB – FCHUB-VTX. Now they have integrated PDB, Current sensor and video transmitter in one board! Matek FCHUB-VTX is perfect match and should be used together with Matek F405-OSD FC. FCHUB-VTX connects with F405-OSD flight controller by flat ribbon cable, thus allowing to make a very clean build. Matek FCHUB-VTX can be conrolled by Betaflight OSD or by means of Lua script directly from your transmitter. VTX has MMCX antenna connector, buttons for manual CH and Frequency control, LED’s and all other bells ant whistles you need.

Matek VTX-HV – stackable video transmitter http://www.dzskam.com/news/matek-vtx-hv-stackable-video-transmitter/ http://www.dzskam.com/news/matek-vtx-hv-stackable-video-transmitter/#comments Mon, 17 Jul 2017 10:49:51 +0000 http://www.dzskam.com/?p=1542 Mateksys is expanding their product range and releasing their own video transmitters. The first one is Matek VTX-HV. It is separate half size of a normal FC, stackable board with OSD. ‘HV’ probably stands for High Voltage, as this VTX works directly from up to 6S HV LiPo battery. Has 5V output for camera, audio input, iPEX antenna connector, LED’s for channel band and power indication and traditional button control.

Some wiring tips:

Connection scheme:

VTX package: Video transmitter, heat shrink, antenna pigtail with SMA connector and whip style antenna.

VTX settingscan be changed via LUA script right from your ?TX:

Instructions for settings:

Also all settings can be changed by two buttons on the board.
